Horry County Gerrymandering Project (HCGP)
Let the Voters Choose their Representatives
We as voters must take back the power from legislators who continuously mark their districts as "protected" from candidates challenging them in the elections. It is vital that we put this to an end.

The problem with legislators picking their voters and not the other way around is for one, according to Fair Maps SC (2017), an average of 73% of voters have had only one name on their ballot to represent them in the House or Senate. Another major problem with the current gerrymandering in South Carolina is ensures that most lawmakers protect their seat with less than 10% of the vote in their uncontested primary.

NeSmith Political Consulting Firm is partnering with Fair Maps SC to bring awareness to voters in Horry County and Richland County. We will gather a petition, with 15% of the registered voters, for the county council to adopt and pass. This will in turn create an Independent Redistricting Committee, qualified citizen volunteers, that would draw the district lines and not legislators.
